About the UK Family
Court Support Hub

The UK Family Court Support Hub supports people navigating the family court system without legal representation. We understand how overwhelming the process can be, particularly when dealing with complex procedures, unfamiliar terminology, and emotionally challenging situations.

Led by experienced professional McKenzie Friends Gemma Bailey and Dave Barma, the Support Hub provides clear, practical guidance and educational support to help litigants in person understand the process, prepare effectively, and feel more confident at every stage of their case.

Our work is grounded in professionalism, transparency, and clear boundaries. We do not provide legal advice or act as legal representatives. Instead, we offer structured support, guidance, and reassurance to help individuals engage with the family court process in an informed and supported way.

Alongside one-to-one support, we provide educational resources, written guides, and a moderated Facebook community where members can access general guidance and peer support in a respectful environment.

Our aim is simple: to help people feel less alone, better informed, and more confident as they navigate the UK family court process.

Our Story

The UK Family Court Support Hub was created from lived experience.

Both Dave and Gemma have personally been through the UK family court system. At the time, they relied on solicitors for support, as they had never heard of McKenzie Friends. They quickly realized how expensive professional support can be and often felt that things were not explained fully or clearly during their proceedings. Later, Dave faced a second set of proceedings and represented himself, giving him first-hand insight into the challenges faced by litigants in person.

These experiences highlighted just how difficult it can be to navigate the family court system without clear, practical guidance. Motivated by a desire to help others avoid feeling as lost or alone as they once did, Dave and Gemma went on to train as professional McKenzie Friends.

What began as a small Facebook support group quickly grew into a supportive and respectful community, as more people sought guidance, reassurance, and shared understanding. As common questions emerged both within the group posts and during the hundreds of free 30 minute calls, Dave and Gemma started writing clear, practical guides to answer frequently asked questions.

Over time, these resources developed into more in-depth guides, designed to support people who could not afford professional support or help. To bring everything together in one accessible place, the UK Family Court Support Hub website was created.

Today, the Support Hub brings together one-to-one support, educational guides, blogs, and a moderated Facebook community — all focused on helping people better understand the family court process and feel more informed, supported, and confident as they navigate it.
